Aurix®: A Patient-Powered Approach to Chronic Wound Management

What Is Aurix®?
Aurix® is an autologous platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, system designed to help healthcare professionals manage chronic and difficult-to-treat wounds. Unlike treatments made from donated tissue, Aurix® is prepared at the point of care using a small sample of the patient’s own blood.
The system separates the patient’s platelets and plasma, which are then combined with supplied reagents to create a biodynamic hematogel for application directly to the wound bed.
Aurix® may also be considered for stalled or difficult-to-manage wounds, including wounds with undermining, sinus tracks, tunnels or exposed bone or tendon, when used according to its indications and instructions for use.
Once applied, the platelet- and plasma-derived gel is designed to support the body’s natural wound-healing processes, including new tissue formation, filling wound defects and reducing wound volume.
Aurix® is intended to be used alongside appropriate standard-of-care measures, such as debridement, offloading, compression when indicated, infection management, adequate circulation, moist wound management, nutritional support and control of underlying conditions.
Why Venture Medical Chose Aurix®
We chose to bring Aurix® into the Venture Medical portfolio because it offers a distinct, patient-centered mechanism supported by published clinical research.
In a multicenter study involving 285 wounds treated across 39 centers, Aurix® materials report a 96.5% response rate in fewer than 15 days, with an average of 2.8 treatments.
In a prospective, randomized controlled trial involving diabetic foot ulcers smaller than 7 square centimeters, 81.3% of Aurix®-treated wounds healed compared with 42.1% in the control group. The reported mean time to healing in that study was six weeks. (Driver V, Hanft J, Fylling, C et al. Aurix® also offers a practical point-of-care process. The system uses a compact, portable centrifuge weighing approximately 5 lbs, making it easy to move from room to room.
The centrifuge has a one-minute spin time designed to fit easily into the patient workflow. Preparation typically takes approximately five to eight minutes after the blood draw, allowing the gel to be produced and applied during the patient’s visit.
The system was designed for use in settings including physician offices, outpatient clinics, hospitals, home health, long-term care and long-term acute care facilities.
For Venture Medical, that combination matters. Aurix® provides a biologically aligned option derived from the individual patient, while its compact equipment and straightforward preparation process allow it to fit into a variety of clinical environments.

Important Safety Information
Aurix® is produced using bovine thrombin and is contraindicated in patients known to be sensitive to components or materials of bovine origin. Aurix® is also contraindicated for use in malignant wounds.
Aurix® requires a physician’s order and should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional in accordance with its instructions for use.
